Are you making these common mistakes that are made by most people new to drop shipping?

• Doing business with a 'wholesaler' who charges you monthly fees. Think about it, you are paying them for the privelge of selling their products. If this is the case, they are not a real wholesaler. Some have fees associated with drop shipping (to take care of packing, shipping, etc.) but no real wholesaler will have these recurring fees. If you see this going on then red flags should be going up.

• Doing business with people who offer you 'turn-key' systems. This usually includes a website and payment processor already setup, and that only allows you to sell items you purchase through them. They are likely going to charge you a setup fee or a recurring as well. These people are not drop shippers, they are middlemen. They buy from the real wholesaler and charge you a huge mark-up. They're counting on you to pay all the advertising costs, but with their fees and their mark up this isn't going to earn you any money. Avoid these people at all costs.

• Paying for a list of drop shippers. The problem with this is usually that the list is out of date. But even if the list isn't out of date and it's full of real legitimate drop shippers then consider how many other people out there bought this same list and are selling the same exact products. Unless the list has over a thousand carefully vetted drop shippers, don't waste your time because there are better ways to find wholesalers.

• Choosing wholesalers that are actively marketing to you. In my experience most of the real wholesalers aren't going to turn up on the first page of the Google unless maybe you're googling their specific niche. They're definitely not going to be taking out online advertisements to try and find people to sell their wares. Why is this? Well financially it doesn't make sense for them to do this because they can just join directories for free, letting the directories worry about finding people to sell their stuff. Typically it's the ones who were rejected by the directories who advertise directly to you, and usually they were rejected for good reason.

• Trying to compete on eBay. This was once a great place to earn a full time income, but the times they have changed. Unfortunately I still see a lot of people trying to sell a product that teaches people to sell on eBay. It's old and outdated, that time has come and past. Go to eBay and you'll likely see many people selling the same product, most often a buying decision is made exclusively on price and this doesn't work in our favor. Really it doesn't work in anyone's favor if you're trying to make living at this. Even if you do find a hot item that nobody else is selling, how long do you think it will be before everyone starts to copy you? With almost no barriers to entry it won't be long before the competition comes in and starts chipping away at your profits. On top of that, take a look at eBay's newer fee structure.
